Media & TV Wall Installation in Chicago

A built-in-looking backdrop for your TV — framed, mounted, and wired clean.

In most living rooms and basements, the TV wall is the first thing you see — and usually the least finished. A media wall turns it into the centerpiece of the room: a designed backdrop, the TV mounted where it should be, a fireplace or shelves if the space calls for them, and no cables hanging in view.

I design and build every media wall personally, for homes across Chicago and the suburbs.

What's Included

Framed, Mounted, and Wired Clean

  • Layout design

TV height, fireplace position, shelves, and panels planned together, so the wall is balanced and the screen sits at the right height.

  • Framing & panel backdrop

Custom framing and a decorative panel backdrop for a built-in look.

  • TV mount prep & mounting

Mount prep built into the wall, then the TV mounted level and centered — I can supply the mount, or use one you already have.

  • Cable routing

Low-voltage cords and cables routed and concealed so nothing hangs in view. This is cable routing, not licensed electrical work like new outlets or wiring.

  • Shelves & consoles

Floating shelves or a console where the design calls for storage or display space.

  • Lighting options

Lighting is planned individually for each project, as part of the overall design.

How It Works

How the Process Works

  1. 01

    Send Photos

Text or email a few photos of the wall and the room, plus a rough idea of what you're imagining.

  2. 02

    Idea & Budget

We talk through the concept, materials, and a rough budget, so you know early whether the idea fits.

  3. 03

    Measure

If needed, I come out to measure and check the wall in person — outlets, corners, and ceiling height.

  4. 04

    Fixed Price

Design, materials, and the final price are locked in before any work starts, and a deposit secures your spot on the schedule.

  5. 05

    Install

I handle the installation personally, bringing in a helper on larger jobs, and we walk through the finished wall together before settling up.

Materials & Styles

Media Wall Styles

The backdrop sets the tone of the whole room. These are the styles from recent projects in the gallery:

  • Marble-look panels

Marble-look PVC panels with a UV-coated finish behind the TV and fireplace, often paired with wood slat trim.

  • Wood slat

Vertical slats framing the TV and fireplace, from light tan to dark wood tones, sometimes with floating shelves on either side.

  • Geometric & lattice trim

Diamond lattice, herringbone, and geometric trim patterns in white or black, for a bolder backdrop.

  • Plaster & minimal

Smooth plaster-style surfaces with a floating mantle and a clean, modern fireplace opening.

Pricing

What Affects the Price

Where your wall lands in the $25–$65 / sq ft range depends on:

  • Wall size and build-out

Pricing is per square foot. A wall that's built out from the original drywall to house a fireplace takes more framing than a flat panel backdrop.

  • Fireplace integration

Fitting an electric fireplace into the wall adds framing and finishing work. You can buy the fireplace yourself, or I can source it.

  • Materials and finish

Marble-look panels, wood slats, trim patterns, and plaster finishes all price differently.

  • Shelves, lighting, and extras

Floating shelves, consoles, and integrated lighting add to the scope. Major electrical rewiring and rebuilding existing walls aren't included.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a media wall cost in Chicago?
Most media and TV wall projects fall in the $25–$65 / sq ft range. Fireplaces, shelves, and wall size move the number within that range.
How long does a media wall take to build?
Most projects done in a few days, depending on scope. You'll know the expected timeline when we lock in the fixed price.
Can you hide the TV cables?
Yes. Cables and low-voltage cords are routed and concealed inside the wall so nothing hangs in view. New outlets or wiring are licensed electrical work — I can bring in an electrician, or you can hire your own.
Can you add a fireplace to my TV wall?
Yes — fireplace integration is a common part of media wall projects, and most of the walls in the gallery above include a fireplace below the TV.
Is there a limit on TV size?
Practically any size and weight. There are no special wall requirements — if the wall needs it, I reinforce the structure before mounting.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, the workmanship is guaranteed. If something goes wrong in the first 2–3 months — the lighting stops working, for example — I fix it for free.
